The latest DCSF School Sport Survey (2009) showed that the number of schools delivering golf has trebled in 5 years, making golf one of the fastest growing sports in schools. This rapid growth in golf is no accident. In that year period, the Golf Foundation has trained over 15,000 teachers, volunteers and coaches to deliver adapted versions of golf in the school setting via the Tri-Golf, Golf Xtreme and Junior Golf Leaders workshops.

Delivered by its enthusiastic and child-centred team of Regional Development Officers, the workshops focus on making the introduction of golf to young people both fun and safe. The Golf Foundation takes a games-led approach to delivering golf where children learn through fun activities, movement and working together. A focus is placed on the Skills for Life, such as honesty, respect and perseverance, where children learn social and personal skills as well as key playing skills.

The Tri-Golf workshop is focused on training teachers and volunteers who work with primary age children (5 through to 11 years).

The Golf Xtreme workshop is directed at teachers and coaches working with secondary age children (12 through to 19 years).

The Junior Golf Leaders Workshop is for all ages of volunteer who wish to assist a PGA coach in delivering games and the Junior Golf Passport to young people.

A training pathway for young volunteers has been devised by the Golf Foundation to provide aspiring young coaches and helpers with a recognised ladder into working with young people through golf.
