‘Plus’ projects to change young people’s livesIntroducing golf to young people from all backgrounds is the mission of our charity and through our HSBC Golf Roots ‘Plus’ programme we are committed to exploring new organisations to work with to help reach a wider audience, as we know that golf can positively change young people’s lives.
In 2021, our 12 new ‘Plus’ projects will enable our charity to make golf more inclusive and accessible. They will help many young people (including those with disabilities) in some of the most disadvantaged communities, to enjoy a fun and healthy introduction to golf. For example, we are delighted to be working with Conwy Youth Service in Wales, and organisations in Leeds, Birmingham and Hertfordshire.
We are proud to support golf projects for students struggling with mental health challenges in Gloucestershire (with the help of the Bespoke Mentoring) and students with low confidence and self-esteem in South Shields.
This year’s Plus funding will also enable more children to enjoy golf at school, including those with physical difficulties and complex medical needs such as those attending Wilson Stuart School in Birmingham (which plans to build a portable mini-course).
Projects in Scotland and Lincolnshire will promote girls' golf while others will mix different sports with golf to build confidence and self-esteem. Most importantly, all will be supported by a local golf club or HSBC Golf Roots Centre to encourage a route into further participation and to foster a longer-term love and interest in golf.
