2020 – Expression of Interest (England)
What is it?
GolfSixes League is a Golf Foundation initiative for junior beginner golfers without a handicap (or one of 37 and above). It offers juniors the opportunity to represent their club in a fun and fast, team based golf format. GolfSixes League is an inter-club competition for local clubs with a simple points scoring system and provides a fun playing experience to retain children’s interest in golf.
How does it work?
Teams take part in a standardised format which can be easily organised and administered by the PGA professional or club volunteer. The competition consists of:
• Minimum 4 teams per league, up to a maximum of 6
• 8 fixtures per league
• 6 short holes adapted depending on facility and number of teams
• Shotgun start where possible (peripheral activities if tee time start)
• Up to a squad of 12 where you may rotate players (ideally a minimum 4 girls per squad)
• Teams of 6 playing each match Pairs Texas Scramble using a point scoring system based on number of strokes taken e.g. 1 stroke = 10 points, 10 strokes = 1 point
• Clubs in the league share hosting the fixtures
Are there any costs involved?
There are no costs to the club for joining a GolfSixes League. We recommend a £30 contribution per participant which can go towards the cost of a ‘Player Pack’ (goody bag, team polo shirt, balls, tees, bag tag, water bottle) and any other expenses such as additional prizes, coaching, or catering when hosting a fixture. Clubs are welcome to subsidise this package or even increase it depending on their offerings but make it clear to parents, participating is worth £30 per player.
What are the benefits of taking part?
Over the last 2 years junior membership at participating GolfSixes League clubs has increased by an average of 34%. Clubs have also seen an increase in revenue from coaching, food and beverage, and shop spend as a result of their involvement with the programme.
