Satellite clubs are activity sessions hosted at a local secondary school or leisure centre where teenagers are introduced to golf using the StreetGolf programme by a PGA Coach based at a local HSBC Golf Roots Centre.
StreetGolf provides an innovative tool for attracting new young people to the sport. However, within a relatively short number of weeks young people are ready and eager to progress on to more traditional but shorter formats of the game at the golf club, supported by the PGA Coach.
The emphasis is on empowering young people to establish a social culture and a sense of belonging, and using our adapted StreetGolf equipment, they can be creative in their sessions. The concept has been shown to be popular with girls, who can try a new game with friends without the team pressure of some sports. Satellite clubs can bridge the gaps between school, college and community sport and help young people to Start, Learn and Stay in golf.
The PGA Professional from the club is at the heart of creating the link with the community venue and delivering coaching outside of the curriculum. This creates a stepping stone to the golf club where young people can start learning the game under the supervision of the PGA Pro.
