Golf Holidays Direct and the Golf Foundation are delighted to announce an extended partnership in support of the Golf Foundation’s Unleash Your Drive in Schools initiative.
The golf travel specialists held a special fundraising event at their recent Masters visit, where they managed to raise £5,700 for the Golf Foundation.
The campaign, which launched in September 2023, is spearheaded by Golf Foundation President Nick Dougherty, and is aimed at changing the face of mental wellbeing in primary schools through the introduction of a specially created mental toughness golf programme. The six week programme can be delivered by teachers via digital resources, and uses specially adapted Golfway equipment to teach fun and inclusive games with mental toughness tools embedded thoughout, to prepare pupils for life inside and outside the classroom.
Early studies have indicated a 19% rise in mental wellbeing among those who have participated in the initiative, with concentration, confidence, emotional control and determination all part of the areas that see improvement.
Over 700 schools have registered their interest in the Unleash Your Drive in Schools initiative to date. As part of the initiative, the Golf Foundation are also seeking to provide the programme as a fully funded offer to those who need it the most – which is where the Golf Holidays Direct donation will be used.
“Golf Holidays Direct are delighted to work with The Golf Foundation on this amazing initiative,” said Lewis Remington, Managing Director of Golf Holidays Direct. “We want to help the Foundation to not only help grow the game of golf, but more importantly to help thousands of young people across the UK to have access to the game in their own environment.”
Brendon Pyle, CEO of the Golf Foundation, added: “We are incredibly thankful to Golf Holidays Direct for the hard work they put in to raise these vital funds for us. Once they saw our campaign launch back in September, they approached to ask how they could help. What they have delivered far exceeds our expectations, and will go a long way to helping us deliver golf to more young people from all backgrounds. Thank you to everyone who donated through the event.”
If you want to support the initiative and be in with a chance of winning one of three places in the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am at Wentworth this year, all you have to do is play golf in May and register your score along with a donation to the Golf Foundation.
