Short course in Lincs can inspire young players

“If you build it they will come…” Nik Fox is a PGA Level 2 Volunteer Coach and Junior Organiser for Kenwick Park Golf Club in the Lincolnshire Wolds. Nik has just finished the creation of a short 9-hole course that any of the 70 juniors at the club (20 are girls) can enjoy and use to improve their game before tackling the big course.

Nik was unfazed by the challenge and apart from cutting out the holes which range from 40 to 95 yards, members and friends contributed with a donated mower, mats, timber and stone blocks for tees and shaping, while the club green keepers are assisting Nik with maintaining this gem of a course for all the kids.

Golf Foundation RDO Stacey Mitchell saw the brand new 9-hole course for herself recently. Stacey said: “Nik has done an absolutely amazing job here. He is a huge asset to the golf club through his role as both a Coach and Junior Organiser and this latest project goes above and beyond – he deserves a gold medal for his support of the juniors.

“There is clearly a great vibe for the youngsters as they learn the game at Kenwick Park GC and thanks to Nik, this new short course will only help to inspire them further!”
