Schools Champion Graeme Storm on the road to full fitness

It has been great to catch up with our Golf Foundation Ambassador Graeme Storm this week: the European Tour star is recovering well from his recent wrist surgery and will be back to competitive international golf in the spring. Best of luck with all the rehab Graeme!

We certainly owe a debt to Graeme who has helped to inspire a great many young people to learn golf and fall in love with the game, his work with schools both before and during lockdowns deserves a stack of gold stars.

Last summer, Graeme generously gave up his time to assist the Golf Foundation, the Youth Sport Trust and Sky Sports to help young people and families up and down the country to engage in virtual sporting challenges as part of National School Sport Week at Home. Graeme was chosen by the Trust to be the ‘National School Sport Champion for Golf’: meanwhile he and our charity’s other Ambassadors led the way in our #LockdownKnockdown challenge which encouraged many families to keep active and learning golf in a fun way during and after that first lockdown in 2020.

Starting from back in 2018, the twice European Tour winner has given much of his time and expertise to support 16 local schools in his home area around Hartlepool.

Graeme also starred in the Hartlepool School Games Tri-Golf Festival in that year, offering coaching and encouragement while playing alongside 100 boys and girls from 10 schools. He led enthusiastic class coaching sessions with the teachers in PE, using Tri-Golf, the successful Golf Foundation easy-to-play format which, in normal times, has brought golf to more than 3,000 schools and 300,000 school children each year.

Add that to his work in his own regional golf tour events for young people and his own golf academy at Richmond Golf Club in Yorkshire, and that National School Champion tag could not be more appropriate. Let’s wish Graeme all the best for 2021!
