The first Play In May competition came to a close at Wentworth Club, with 20 Wentworth Club members hosting our 60 finalists on the West Course in an incredible golf tournament. The Wentworth Club Captain Phil Leonard welcomed the guests in the morning alongside Nick Dougherty, and each group of three was joined by a Wentworth member to help them around the course with some local knowledge.
A brilliant day under bright blue skies saw our first ever Play In May winners crowned. Congratulations to James Jameson, Josh Mugridge and Jess Pilgrim, who all shot over 36 points on their way to victory. The trio received TaylorMade bags fresh from the recent majors as well as special glass trophies to take home, but most special of all they will all be welcomed back in September for the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am where they will tee it up alongside a whole line-up of celebrities and superstars.
James, Josh and Jess all qualified for the Unleash Your Drive Final through different avenues – Josh was among the top 30 scores on the leaderboard at the end of the qualifying period; Jess won one of our monthly draw entries back in November; and James scored 36 points in May and missed out on the leaderboard, but was one of the lucky 10 names picked as part of our second chance draw.
Thank you to everyone who took part in year one, and helped us raise over £20,000 to help our Unleash Your Drive in Schools initiative – the early impacts have shown a rise in mental wellbeing among the primary schools delivering the programme, and we can’t wait to roll it out wider.
