I love golf, but playing 1,000 courses isn’t really the point. The point is what those 1,000 rounds can help achieve.
We are delighted to announce that David Tuscarny is taking on an extraordinary challenge to support the Golf Foundation and Alzheimer’s Research UK: playing 1,000 different golf courses in 1,000 days.
Starting at Woodhall Spa on 1 January 2027, David’s challenge will take him across mainland Great Britain, raising money to help fund dementia research and give more children and young people the opportunity to discover golf.
David, the founder of The 1000 and ChippedIn, is aiming to raise £500,000, with 80% going to Alzheimer’s Research UK and 20% to the Golf Foundation. Reaching that target would mean £100,000 towards our work helping young people enjoy golf and develop valuable skills for life.
A challenge inspired by his mum
The 1000 is dedicated to David’s mother, who died in January 2026 after living with dementia. Having cared for her through her illness, David wanted to do something positive in her memory.
“This started with my mum,” he said. “She loved birds, animals and being out in the countryside. Walking was her thing until dementia made her too frail to do it. After losing her, I wanted to do something in her memory that was positive, that would get me out there and that could hopefully make a difference to other families.”
For David, the challenge has a purpose far beyond the scorecard.
“I love golf, but playing 1,000 courses isn’t really the point. The point is what those 1,000 rounds can help achieve.”
Helping young people through golf
We are proud to be part of David’s journey. The funds raised for the Golf Foundation will support our work in schools and communities, introducing more children to golf and helping them build confidence, learn new skills and experience the benefits the game can bring.
Brendon Pyle, Chief Executive of the Golf Foundation, said:
“David is taking on a truly remarkable challenge, and we are delighted that The 1000 will help more children and young people discover golf and the life skills the game brings. The funds raised for the Golf Foundation will support our work in schools and communities across Great Britain, and we will be cheering David on every step of the way.”
Follow David’s journey
Playing a new course every day on average will take David through three British winters, with plenty of challenges along the way. Josh Simpson, who holds the world record for the most golf courses played in a single year, will join him for his opening round at Woodhall Spa.
ChippedIn will share daily social content and regular films throughout the challenge. David also plans to visit schools and care homes along the route to talk about the causes behind The 1000 and the benefits of golf, and hopes clubs and golfers will get involved.
“Some days will be brilliant, some will probably be miserable, and there will almost certainly be days when I wonder what on earth I’ve got myself into,” he said. “But that’s part of it. If, at the end of 1,000 days, we’ve played 1,000 courses and raised £500,000, I’ll know it was worth every step.”
We would like to thank David for choosing to support the Golf Foundation. We look forward to following his progress and cheering him on as he turns a deeply personal tribute into opportunities for others.
