Mental toughness in golf clubs

SUBHEADING

[WRITTEN]

A proven programme helping 11–16 year olds build the mental skills to perform better — on the course and in life.

SECTION: The research

In 2020 the Golf Foundation revealed the remarkable results of a research project measuring the impact of a coaching programme for 11–16 year olds.

Youngsters taking part in the pilot projects showed a statistically significant improvement in mental toughness, which evaluates Confidence, Commitment, Challenge and Control.

Participants used the techniques they had learnt in their golf lessons to better address challenges in everyday life — at school, in exams and at home.

SECTION: The programme

The programme, devised in collaboration with Mindset experts Yeast Ltd and a group of PGA Professionals, teaches traditional golf skills and nine mental toughness tools including

concentration, emotional control, and positive self-reflection.

The same nine mental toughness tools are embedded in the

Unleash Your Drive in Schools programme. If your club is linked

to local schools running UYD, the tools your juniors are

practising in the club will reinforce what they're learning in

the classroom.
