Girls' Golf Leadership Programme

The National Girls' Leadership Programme is part of a wider retention philosophy for the Golf Foundation which seeks to keep more girls in the sport and offer girl golfers genuine pathways in personal development as they move into adulthood.

The programme is targeted at girl golfers aged 15-22 currently volunteering in golf, who would like to become Leaders in the sport and/or have an interest in a career within the Golf industry. The programme has been inspired by the Women’s Sports Leadership Academy (WSLA) which had a significant impact on Golf Foundation and England Golf staff who have completed this.

The key outcomes of the Leadership Programme are to:

  • Inspire and create future female leaders of golf, sport and society
  • Support the professional and career development of girls in golf
  • Bring together industry experts who are passionate about increasing opportunities for girls

This programme will help to encourage a new generation of girls to consider a career and leadership role in golf. As a signatory of The R&A’s Women in Golf Charter, we are committed to empowering girls to become future leaders within the golf industry. We believe this programme provides the ideal mechanism to help achieve this.

In Spring 2021, the first cohort of 23 girls were trained through the online virtual training programme. You can read through the news stories on this page to hear more about this. We were delighted to be joined by some of the golf industry’s most dynamic voices who inspired the female conference delegates. One guest speaker was Inci Mehmet, Ladies European Tour player and Sky Sports presenter, you can watch a clip from Inci Mehmet's presentation below.

In Spring 2022, we will be running the Girls' Golf Leadership Programme once again. This will consist of 3 sessions taking place across a 2-month period with 1 face-to-face and 2 virtual sessions. There will be a maximum of 15 places on the Programme and girls will be invited to apply who are either:

  • a Girl Leader at one of the Golf Foundation’s Girls Retention Pilot clubs
  • Young female volunteers within a County programme or through a HSBC Golf Roots Centre
  • a previous applicant of the National Young Ambassador Programme

The programme content will include training and education around generic leadership, team building, growth mindset, networking, visualisation, time management, conscious career and personal development planning.

Guest Speakers from leading industry partners will also present to the girls around career pathways and leadership opportunities within their organisation; ultimately helping to inspire girl golfers into a leadership role and career within our sport.

On completion of the programme, delegates will have the opportunity to receive follow-up support from The Golf Foundation and through our network of Guest Speakers. The newly trained cohort of Girls Leaders will be invited to apply to join the Golf Foundation Girls' Leadership Panel.
