Paying respects to former President Sandy Jones

The Golf Foundation team wishes to pay our respects to Sandy Jones, former President of this charity, who has died aged 75 after a short illness. Our staff offers our heartfelt condolences to Sandy’s family at this difficult time.

Sandy Jones was the former Chief Executive of The PGA. As with so many of the PGA professional coaches he represented, he enjoyed a lasting bond with the Golf Foundation; the two bodies working together to bring the joy of golf to children from all backgrounds.

Sandy served on the Board of Trustees of the Golf Foundation and became a popular President in a seven-year stint that finished this year. He was an influential supporter too: behind the ready smile and congenial authority, Sandy worked hard so that senior figures across golf were aligned to our values that golf should be innovative, inspiring, enriching, fun and inclusive for all young people.

Golf Foundation Chairman Stephen Lewis said: “Sandy was a giant in the world of golf who will be sadly missed. He loved golf with a passion and was always the first to promote all the benefits of the game for young people. As our President, he was a great advocate for our work in schools, communities and golf clubs and his influence across the sport was huge.”

“Sandy Jones was a major supporter of our charity for many years and believed in making golf as accessible to as many youngsters as possible,” said Brendon Pyle, the Golf Foundation’s Chief Executive.

“He was very generous with his time as our President and his experience and knowledge were very helpful to us with our funding and relationships. Sandy was acutely aware of how the game could provide positive life skills to youngsters and give them a good start in life. He was very supportive of our whole team and he will be sadly missed.”
