Now that many of us can enjoy golf again, what better way to support the #CaptainTom100 Challenge than to raise funds for the Golf Foundation, the charity that introduces children to golf, from all backgrounds, creating golfers.
Raise £100, make 100 putts, try to beat 100 shots – do it your way! Or you can simply support our charity’s own team (see https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/TeamGF) as we show off our golfing ‘skills’ and tests of endurance around the figure ‘100’.
To celebrate Captain Sir Tom Moore’s life on what would have been his 101st birthday, his family are asking people to get involved in the #CaptainTom100 Challenge starting today (Friday April 30 – Monday May 3).
Our team’s challenge includes: a group of our Foundation/England Golf Young Ambassadors have stepped up to play an amazing 100 rounds together starting from this weekend to raise funds; our RDO for the North West Andy Leigh’s children, Ethan (aged 11) and Eva (aged seven), are each going for 100 putts of 100 inches (8.333ft); our Head of Fundraising Vanessa Bell is nailing 100 pitching wedge shots into a bucket from 100 feet (however long this takes!), while our RDO for South Central Paul Aitkens is staging a ‘100 skills challenge’ with young players during his coaching on Saturday.
Meanwhile, our Communications Officer Joan McCrohan and our RDO for the Central Region Alice Lowe are both running at speed for 100 minutes (Alice over one of the UK’s hilliest golf courses!); our RDO for the South West Tom ‘The Shark’ Sparks is powering through 100 lengths of the swimming pool like… a big shark… and our Press Officer Ben Evans is emulating Ethan and Eva’s putting feats with 100 brilliant putts (Ben is the worst putter in the Foundation and least likely to succeed).
