Supporting girls and young women in golf

The Golf Foundation wishes all of our girl and women golfers well in the year ahead (including professionals and volunteers) to enjoy the game safely, supporting girls in schools, communities, clubs and leadership projects to make golf a more inclusive sport: supporting #womensgolfday today!

As a charity that changes young lives through golf, the Golf Foundation is following closely its stated pledge as a signatory of The R&A Women in Golf Charter (see our specific goals here) –  The R&A being the charity’s strongest supporter.

We’re supporting girls’ junior activity with golf clubs and schools safely, and looking forwarding to growing organised group golf sessions when possible, so that we can maintain the positive momentum of 2019. Our ‘HSBC Golf Roots’ programme’s results of last year included 14,848 girls visiting a golf club; the generation of 3,784 new affiliated golf club junior members, including 28% girls; while just under a third of GolfSixes League players were girls. However, this charity is looking to further grow these numbers and ratios in 2020/21.

Working with England Golf, the Golf Foundation trained 166 new Girls Golf Rocks Ambassadors across England, while in schools the charity requests that for the School Games, 50% of school teams are girls. Other areas of our work have focused on providing leadership training and opportunities for girls and young women in the sport and the golf industry, and supporting The Solheim Cup last year with special girls’ and parents’ events.

Our two Golf Foundation Ambassadors, Ladies European Tour stars Meghan MacLaren and Felicity Johnson, have also been great friends to this charity as we grow awareness and seek to inspire young players.

While we feel this work is progressive, we are very aware that the game needs to continue to be more inclusive and appealing to new female players, and that’s why today’s #womensgolfday and similar awareness opportunities are worth the support of all!

Keep up with our latest news and events.
