Here is a sample of one of the powerful reports generated when a school applies the pre and post self-assessment to their Unleash Your Drive delivery. The report showcases the significant progress students make in their mental toughness over the course of the programme. The assessment includes 14 questions designed to measure various aspects of mental toughness. These questions provide insights into how well children understand and apply mental toughness tools in their golf games and beyond, benefiting them in their wider lives.
The pre and post-assessment comparison allows teachers and coaches to see tangible development in students’ mental resilience, allowing them to take on challenges and deal with setbacks better. It highlights areas where students have shown improvement and identifies opportunities for further growth.
The impact measure incorporates the 7-question Warwick & Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale. This scale is a reputable tool used to evaluate overall mental wellbeing. By including it in the assessment, Unleash Your Drive ensures a comprehensive evaluation of the programme’s impact. The combination of the mental toughness questions and the wellbeing scale provides a holistic view of the groups progress, showing not only improvements in their golf performance but also in their general mental health.
St John The Evangelist (Year 4 – Silver Birch class)
The school has embraced the programme with enthusiasm, acknowledging its significant role in supporting their mental wellbeing efforts. “The programme will support and help extend pupil mental wellbeing work in the school,” commented a representative from St John the Evangelist CE Primary School. “Children can focus on something positive, such as if they are having a bad day or issues at home and with their mental wellbeing, they can enjoy taking part in the programme. Life lessons can be taught through the programme. We as a school are already focusing on less active children and exploring ways to record their activity. The more active they are, the better chance their mental wellbeing will be healthy.”
“From the 54 Year 4 pupils who completed the pre and post self-assessment, it was clear that the mental toughness tools had an impact on pupils,” Andy Leigh, Unleash Your Drive Manager, said. “It’s been especially helpful around being better equipped to overcome challenges and learn from mistakes, better equipped to persist, pursue goals and remain determined, and view a challenge or something new as a chance to learn.”
